Eco Asia Conference will feature a panel of international environmental protection experts

The third Eco Asia Conference is welcoming a panel of top international environmental protection experts. The annual conference has been organised under the guidance of former Deputy Director of Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department, Mr Mike Stokoe. Running from 28 – 29 October 2008, the two-day conference will be held in tandem with Eco Expo Asia at AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong.

Permanent Secretary for the Environment, Ms Anissa Wong to deliver keynote speech

Joining the forum panel of experts will be Hong Kong Government Permanent Secretary for the Environment / Director of Environmental Protection, Ms Anissa Wong Sean-yee, JP. An active member of the government since the late 1970’s, Ms Wong will be one of the keynote speakers during the first day of seminar sessions offered at the conference.

Panellists have been invited to share insight in the following four main areas of concern:

  • Energy Efficiency
    Using resources efficiently and seeking for sustainable energy are top items on the research agenda worldwide. Environmental protection professionals are now developing new ways to recycle waste and enhance energy efficiency. These sessions will be held on 28 October 2008 from 14:00 – 16:15. Technology on direct alcohol fuel cell and biofuels from waste and non-edible feedstocks will be featured.
  • Air Quality
    Air pollution is considered a serious problem worldwide. Speakers will provide invaluable guidance to any attendees interested in challenging current air quality issues in Hong Kong and the surrounding region on 29 October 2008 from 10:45 – 12:30.
  • Waste & Recycling
    Worldwide action to reduce wastes either by encouraging material efficiency or enabling the recovery and reuse of discarded materials will be addressed at these sessions held on 29 October 2008 from 13:30 – 15:15.
  • Green Building
    This year’s conference will introduce a new topic open for discussion that will focus on ‘Green Building’. Several leading experts from the Hong Kong region will offer advise on the importance of developing detailed plans in helping create sustainable green buildings on 29 October 2008, from 15:15 – 17:00.

In addition to several local environmental protection specialists, some of the most influential international voices on the business of environmental protection will be speaking out at the third annual Eco Asia Conference. Internationally renowned expert on biodiesel activities, Professor Martin Mittelbach from the University of Graz, Austria, will discuss and evaluate effective ways of implementing Biofuels from Waste and Non-Edible Feedstocks on 28 October 2008 from 14:30 – 15:00.

Leading specialist in waste & recylcing, Dr Annette Ochs, Department Head of biological treatment at the Federation of German Waste Management Industries will be sharing practical information on Organic Waste Recycling and Energy Recovery in Germany. Dr Ochs’ outline will be offered on 29 October 2008, from 14:00 – 14:30.
