Third edition of Eco Expo Asia, featuring four new highlights Hong Kong and Chinese mainland governments increase initiatives in 'green' projects reflecting growing awareness in environmental protection After fully reviewing the profiles of last year’s exhibitors and visitors, Eco Expo Asia returns with four new special highlights. Air Quality, Eco-friendly Product, Energy Efficiency and Waste & Recycling will be featured this year, as last year’s statistics show that both exhibitors and visitors were most interested in products and technologies in these categories. The third annual edition of Eco Expo Asia will run from 28 – 31 October 2008 at the AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong. Over 130 exhibitors and 5,000 visitors attended the fair last year – including some 2,000 from overseas – proving its relevance and growing importance for the environmental industry. There were a total of 14%, 21%, 19% and 17% exhibitors showcasing products and services in Air Quality, Eco-friendly Product, Energy Efficiency and Waste & Recycling respectively, showing an increase in exhibitors participation in each category. Visitors from targeted regions also showed greater interests in these four highlights. This evident shift led to four new special highlights in Eco Expo Asia 2008. These four highlights are:
The new special highlights will allow both exhibitors and visitors to better focus on what they are looking for. Hong Kong and Chinese mainland governments are taking steps to tackle the environmental challengesThe US Commercial Service published a report in 2007 called ‘Hong Kong ( Pearl River Delta): Pollution Prevention and Energy Efficiency (P2E2) Technologies’ stating the Chinese mainland government’s effort in combating environmental challenges and achieving environmental sustainability. Chinese mainland is facing increasing environmental challenges as a result of its rapid economic growth and industrial development. Poor air quality, increased solid waste, wastewater discharge as well as serious acid rain are among some of the problems caused by industrialisation. Because of these, the Chinese mainland government has been placing more emphases and resources in promulgating widespread adoption of cleaner production by industries. Creating a greener environmentThe Chinese mainland Government’s 11 th Five-Year Plan (covering 2006 to 2010) is determined to enlarge its investment in pollution control and improvement of the natural environment, with the total value amounting to about USD186 billion during the five-year period. Aside from the Five-Year Plan, the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong governments enforced the policy and legal framework to promote and implement cleaner production. These projects aim to encourage manufacturing industries in the region to practice cleaner production through case examples and technology demonstration. According to Federation of Hong Kong Industries, there are over 100,000 factories and manufacturing enterprises alone in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) that are wholly or jointly owned by Hong Kong enterprises. All these factories need new environmental technologies and products to improve plant facilities to adhere to governmental laws and to increase cost efficiency. Their needs are pushing up the demand for innovative green products at a rapid rate. The government is also undertaking various other actions in addressing climate changes, improvement in energy efficiency as well as waste management. With such immense efforts targeted at improving the quality of the environment, demands for environmental products and services are raising vigorously. Eco Expo Asia will serve as the bridge between eco products manufacturers / service providers and buyers, bringing them together and creating networking and environmental business opportunities. Eco Asia ConferenceEco Expo Asia and Eco Asia Conference will run concurrently at AsiaWorld-Expo. The Eco Asia Conference has established itself as a major environmental event that covers significant environmental topics. This year, the conference will also focus on the four major highlights of Eco Expo Asia, further augmenting the importance of these four categories. Both events will be held from 28 – 31 October 2008, with 31 October opened to public.
