Eco Asia Conference
The annual Eco Asia Conference is an important event featuring environmental protection experts as key speakers. Running alongside with Eco Expo Asia, this comprehensive conference has established itself as one of the major events in the calendar year as it covers a variety of significant environmentally themed topics of concern in the world, especially Asia.
Eco Asia Conference is one of the best opportunities for interaction and networking. Professionals and experts of environmental protection, as well as the public, can exchange market information about international progress of the conservation of the environment, especially in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.
Thriving market – going green in Hong Kong
There are increasing numbers of initiatives taken at every level to incorporate the concept of ‘going green’, from infrastructure developments to day-today needs.
The Hong Kong SAR Government has been taking various actions in creating a greener lifestyle for the public. The increase in environmental projects and policies such as the Port Shelter Sewerage Scheme, Regional Air Quality Monitoring Network, and the New Nature Conservation Policy continue to generate huge business opportunities and demands for environmental products and services. There are also various publicity campaigns and incentive schemes to raise public awareness and encourage everyone to work towards a greener city and life.
Private enterprises are putting the concept of ‘going green’ as their priority when investing in different projects. Environmental-friendly air conditioning systems are being used in buildings. New properties are incorporating the idea of ‘vertical gardens’ into their architectural designs and use energy-efficient compact fluorescent lamps.
Flourishing opportunities – cleaner production in Chinese mainland
According to Federation of Hong Kong Industries, there are about 55,200 manufacturing enterprises and 57,500 factories in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) that are owned or jointly owned by Hong Kong enterprises. With growing environmental consciousness, these companies are keen to seek environmental solutions to comply with governmental policies and increase cost-effectiveness. Commencing in April 2008, Hong Kong Productivity Council, with government funding of HK$93 million (USD12 million) will launch a five-year Cleaner Production Partnership Programme for promoting cleaner production technologies and practices amongst Hong Kong-owned factories in the PRD region.
