Corn: An Alternative for Plastics
Nowadays there is an increasing interest in green purchasing. People realize that if they do not take action to protect our earth now, it will be too late. Packaging comes with every product we buy. GreenGood Eco-Tech Company Limited, a Hong Kong-based biodegradable food containers and packaging manufacturer launched a bio-based and biodegradable foodservice disposables product line.
The products, which carry U.S. and European product certification, are made from 100% biodegradable materials ; PLA ( NatureWorks corn resin) , high heat tolerant CPLA , Sugarcane ( Bagasse) . At the end of life the products can be recycled or composted.
The company has been working with the US-based NatureWorks to develop the application of PLA resin.
Their PLA products have passed the standard of ASTM D6400 (USA), EN 13432 (EU) and GreenPla (Japan) with regard to compostability:
The company’s PLA and Bagasse have recently supply to he Beijing Olympics 2008. The products use natural sugarcane pulp to produce molded disposable tableware products and are not bleached with chemical whitening solutions.
